Domain Hosting for Internet Marketers

Posted by Steve | Posted in SEO by Request | Posted on 12-09-2011

Choosing a web hosting package is a little different for Internet Marketers. We come from a different perspective in that many of us have multiple sites which we will want to host under the same account as this saves us money ( only one account fee) and time (only one account to maintain.

So aside from price what other considerations are there is selecting a website host?

  • Security – Site security is particularly important if you will be hosting an eCommerce site.
  • Speed – Don’t make your potential customers wait. Does the hosting company have upgrade options if additional bandwidth fo rthe site is required.
  • Space – How much space is available on the accountand how does that fit in with the present an future requirement of your sites.
  • Email Capabilities – How many email accounts are provided and what email features are on offer
  • Reports – How useful are the website stats? Good reporting may save you the cost of 3rd party traffic analytic software.
  • Reliability –  What is their uptime? 99% sounds good but that’s nearly 4 full days a year they will be offline.
  • Support – How does their support work? Email support is fine if they are responsive to requests.
  • Extra Bonuses – What extras are they throwing in. $75 Free Google advertising is good value if you are a PPC newbie.

Take a look at a typical matrix of Web Hosts services and Monthly Pricing-

Sample Hosting Comparison

This is a fair representation of the pricing and features for all of these web hosting services but what they don’t tell you is what is not included in the deal. This all happens when you sign up. They will make a few offers during the process and many of them you should probably take up. These may include-

  • Domain privacy which hides the domain owner (you) from the rest of the world.
  • SSL Certificate which you will almost certainly need if you want to take money online.
  • Backup services which protects you data. Not a bad idea if you are not savvy enough to do it yourself.
  • Unique IP. Again, not a bad idea if you want to look like your website is unique rather than sharing an IP with dozens of others.
  • Faster servers. Depending on the speed of the basic package you may want this.
  • Longer domain name registration. You may have got the first year free but the offer to renew for a longer period up front will cost you.

Now its difficult to know what the cost of these services are until you start the registration process so the few dollars a month you save by selecting the cheapest provider in the sample matrix may dissapear if their upgrade options are more expensive.

Sounds like a real dilema doesn’t it? Well my approach is this. If you are serious about Internet Marketing you really can’t go that wrong with any of the top 5. Just Google Web Hosting top 10, check out who consistently makes the top 5 and pick one. Chances are when you really analyze it they will all be within a whisker of each other. You will probably end up paying between $75 and $100 per year will a few extras regardless of who you pick and in the overall scheme of things that should be a relatively small cost in your online business.

Remember  – Procrastination is the thief of time

Whats in a Name? Choosing Your Domain Name

Posted by Steve | Posted in SEO by Request | Posted on 12-09-2011

Now most of us are not building websites with some corporate vision in mind. I say this because to some degree Google are sending out messages through people like Matt Cutts (who I quite like by the way) that perhaps website developers should be considering non keyword domain names. They argue that perhaps your aim should be to have the product associated with your branding much in the same way that we don’t search the web we Google it.

Well, I am here to say that most of us cannot aspire to such dizzy heights and we should probably be looking very closely at securing a keyword focussed domain because they are the easiest to market. I have to say at this point that it is a whole lot harder than it used to be simply because all the best domain names are taken up by various sources.  I say various sources because they could be in use or purchased to park (as an investment) or simply being used in a very inneffectual way. The unavailablity of good domain names partially explains the  increasing focus on long tail keywords for whicg a domain can be purchased and for which the competition is less intense.

However, don’t write off the domain immediately because there may just be another way of securing that ideal domain name for your product or service. If the domain name is taken you can still register your interest should the site not be renewed. You can make the owner of an active site with little or no activity or relevance an offer to purchase the domain. Take a look at this site which will allow you to search for domains, show you available domains for normal registration and also ones for purchase in addition to domains you can pre register for should they become available.     http://www.domainsbot.com

It is clear that there are significant marketing advantages to be gained by having  a keyword domain name so do you research and find something relevant.

SEO and Proxies

Posted by Steve | Posted in SEO by Request | Posted on 12-09-2011

Proxies are primarily used to disguise your IP Address which begs the question…Why would you want to disguise your IP Address?

Well, the main reason is because you are doing something that someone may take exception to whether that is Google or the recipient of some of your unsolicited emails.

Internet Marketers using Black Hat or Grey Hat SEO techniques are often stretching the friendship and posting greater numbers of messages, comments, blog posts, social network links, atricle submissions sending emails etc that is humanly possible by using SEO Software tools. Proxies can disguise the source of these so you can fly under the radar.

While we do not necessarily condone the use of Black Hat or Grey Hat SEO Software it is fairly well accepted that you will have to get yourself some decent proxy lists if you want to use your SEO Software to best effect. This is where the game gets a little trickier. You see every Internet Marketer and his dog are using the free proxies out there and many of them are guilty of some pretty serious spamming. The net result of this is that these proxies are very quickly banned by the Internet Community at Large who utilize either public domain banned proxy lists.

Now this is not to say that you can’t use free proxies. New proxies are constantly being released and are perfectly good if you get them early. So the trick is to get fresh proxies all the time. What you need to do this is a tool like Proxy Goblin which is designed to automate the process of locating fresh proxies and outputting the list to a .txt file which you can import into other applications.

There is another alternative to this and it is paid private proxies. You can purchase private proxies for a monthly fee from Squid Proxies and this will absolutely guarantee that you are not sharing a proxy with some less than desirable Internet Marketers. Your proxy IP’s Change on monthly renewal which is a good feature do if your Marketing is White Hat or perhaps Grey Hat and you just don’t want to go through the drama of renewing proxies all the time then this option may be for you.

SEONukeX – Black Hat SEO or not.

By strict definition Black Hat SEO  techniques are those activities that are against the guidelines set by the search engines. These guidelines are set to ensure that SERP’s (Search Engine Return Pages) reflect content relevant to the user’s search phrase. Some examples of tactics used to attempt to “fool” the search engines include:-

  • Keyword stuffing – keywords can be provided, among others, in meta tags, alt tags, comment tags, in invisible text to human eyes. By overusing the same keywords throughout a web page  search engines algorithms that reads keywords will drive the web page up in its search result.
  • Doorway and cloaked pages – web sites contain web pages that are listed in search result. However, when entering these pages, users are redirected to other pages. Hence, the search result contents do not match the page displayed to users. E.G  You search for a popular DVD but when you click on a high ranking result a page appears selling you weight control pills. A percentage of people will buy the weight control pills so   leveraging off a popular search term has worked for the sneaky web marketer. Google ( and the other search engines will punish this behavior very severely…if and when they catch you.
  • Link farming – submitting your URL to a website which includes a link directory with a large number of links to other sites with totally unrelated content.
  • Hidden text – hiding text in the page or website is also a black hat SEO technique. It is considered as spam and search engine can ban the website.

None of these tactics are used by SEONukeX which simply uses legitimate SEO techniques such as article submissions, social bookmarking, video sites etc  to increase the number of back-links. There are some grey areas here because SEONukeX uses or relies on tools such as auto registration and auto-submission software in addition to article spinning software. Article spinning software produces many variations of the posted articles and along with auto submission tools  gives the impression of large numbers of independent users posting large numbers of unique documents to many different sites. In theory, this is something that could be done by real human users albeit much slower. The trick is to make the articles different enough and the submission rate slow enough to fool the search engines.

So does this make SEONukeX Black Hat Software?  No, not really but it does fly in the face of the spirit and intention of the Search Algorithm because a large number of back-links is supposed to reflect a broad agreement from the general Internet Community that your site is an authority on the chosen keyword or phrase.  In early SEO history you could stuff your site full of keywords and effectively make a self proclamation of authority but soon enough the major search engines simply stopped counting keyword meta tags as a positive ranking factor ( although stuffing your meta keyword tags will still negatively impact your ranking). The search engines soon realized that external sources should be used as the major ranking factor and furthermore, the actual  ranking of those external pages should also be an important factor. So in essence, it doesn’t matter what you say about yourself its about what people who matter say about you.  SEONukeX makes it easy to give the impression that the links are natural and unique.

SEONukeX is Grey Hat Marketing. It uses acceptable SEO methods but it is not, strictly speaking, playing fair. Google, and the other search engines are aware of this but given that the the methods used are based on genuine SEO strategies, they are somewhat limited in what they can do. They can watch for un-natural numbers of submissions to article directors, social networks and the like and they can put greater restrictions on article sites through tighter duplicate content and linking rules but SEONukeX assists you in these areas but providing excellent article spinning tools and automating submissions so that they are scheduled over a longer period and appear more natural.

In a world where not all is equal some would argue that any tool which puts you back on a level playing field is a good tool. SEONukeX certainly is a good tool and it works best when you have a genuine product or service to sell and your site has good content.

Document Spinning – Tips and Tricks

Posted by Steve | Posted in Article Marketing, SEO by Request, SEO Software | Posted on 09-09-2011

Document spinning software is designed to turn a single document into multiple variations using synonym replacement techniques.

The purpose of this is to enable users to publish copies of their articles on multiple ezine or blog sites for example, whilst avoiding Google’s multiple content filters.  Google’s duplicate content filters will discount duplicate articles from sites with the lower page rank. This of course means that 2o identical documents on 20 ezine sites will only bring you one link to your site. To avoid this your documents have to be sufficiently different.  The magic figure (at the moment) is about 30% different in content.

There is some excellent software available to assist you with this process but it does require that you revise the way in which you word you documents. Keep them in very plain english and construct simple sentences. The more you practice this the more natural it will become.

Lets look at a few examples.

Example 1: Here is an overly complex sentence with overly complex words.

Weight reduction is a difficult task made even harder buy our propensity for high calorific value food.

This is the text is spun form. Note the {Original Word|Variant1|Variant2|Variant3} format – this is the spinning language.

{Weight|Excess weight|Bodyweight|Fat} reduction is a {difficult|challenging|tough|hard} {task|job|process|activity} {made|produced|created|manufactured} even {harder|tougher|more difficult|more challenging} {buy|purchase|acquire|get} our propensity for {high|substantial|higher|large} calorific {value|worth|appeal|price} {food|meals|foods}.

These are three of the possible results.

Excess weight reduction is a challenging task created even more challenging get our propensity for large calorific price meals.

Weight reduction is a hard process made even more difficult get our propensity for high calorific price food.

Fat reduction is a challenging task produced even tougher purchase our propensity for higher calorific price food.

As you can see, the variations are not really acceptable.

Example 2: The same meaning but in a simpler form

Losing weight is hard to do because we all like high calorie food.

Again, here is the spun document-

{Losing|Dropping|Shedding} {weight|excess weight|bodyweight|fat} is {hard|difficult|tough|challenging} to do {because|simply because|since|due to the fact} we all like {high|substantial|higher|large} calorie {food|meals|foods}.

Here are three possible results

Shedding weight is tough to do due to the fact we all like large calorie food.

Dropping bodyweight is hard to do due to the fact we all like large calorie foods.

Dropping excess weight is difficult to do due to the fact we all like high calorie foods.

Clearly, all three of these variations make sense.

In summary, document spinning software is a very valuable tool in the Internet Marketers arsenal but in order to get the most out of it you do have to modify your writing style somewhat.

Internet Snake Oil

Posted by Steve | Posted in SEO by Request | Posted on 20-08-2011

Do you remember the old wild West movies when some old codger in a horse-drawn carriage would be spruking the apparent and mystical medical benefits of Snake Oil. This included removing warts, growing hair on a billiard ball and even providing eternal youth.

Recently, I spoke to  business associate who remembers some 30 years ago sending 10 bucks a way  with a voucher from a magazine responding to an ad where he was guarantee that he could cut his bills in half. A week or so later he received an envelope with a small pair of scissors.

These are simple examples of the kinds of scams that go on now and have always gone. There will always be somebody out there offering a solution to make things simple and fix your problems whatever they may be.

Today, one of the most common areas where scammers are trying to separate you from your hard earned money is by offering Killer Internet  moneymaking systems. it is unfortunate, and it would be nice if it was otherwise it quite simply  you take a look closely at any of these offers a simply do not stack up. There is A common theme to all of these Internet moneymaking schemes. That common theme looks something like this.

Here is real proof from my clickbank account that this KILLER SOFTWARE which works completely on autopilot and was written by an amazing teenage boy in the Philippines will make you a six figure income per month using a unique Google exploit software system and you don’t need to know anything about Internet marketing or own a website or have a product to sell. You just turn it on and within the first hour you be making money and well on your way to becoming an Internet marketing millionaire. You will need to get in quick because I am only selling 100 copies of this amazing software for only $49.95 each. Once sold I will sell no more!

Now I have  got say that sounds like a bargain. An investment of only $49.95 at a turning into a millionaire! What I don’t quite understand why someone who is earning a six-figure income per month would bother going to the extent of constructing an elaborate sales campaign only sell 200 copies at $49.95 each sum total of $9,990! after all that’s only three days income for this Internet Guru. Let me ask you this, if you had designed a  six-figure a month income generating machine would you pass off the secrets just  to get a quick 10 grand and possibly open up more competition?

Now this particular model has been used for a few years now with only a few minor revisions.if you do sign up for one of these applications you will usually find a number of upsell is after you make the initial purchase many of which will eventually amount to a few hundred bucks. The upgrades are optional but there is always the suggestion that unless you get all of the upgrades the system won’t be as effective. Now I have to say at this point that even a few hundred bucks is a real bargain if it can provide you with a six-figure a month income. Not surprisingly of course it doesn’t and it won’t and never has done.

Now don’t get me wrong, there are some genuine Internet marketing software systems that do work. Do they produce six-figure income  for anyone? Well in some instances they do. The qualifier here is that they are never instant moneymakers they do require a considerable amount of investment of time and money. Anybody using this software to generate significant income more than likely works on the system full-time simply because that is what is required.

Anybody, and I say ANYBODY, who tells you otherwise is making their money by doing exactly that… telling you otherwise and selling you a product that I can pretty much guarantee will not work.

Most of the people selling Killer Systems make their money by selling the Killer systems. They don’t make it by using the Killer Systems! so if you want to make money on the Internet with as little effort as possible then you might want to think about following the lead forget about using the product they try to sell you and SELL IT instead.  Just remember that they have a head start on you and in their own right they are very clever people who were often well networked and quite simply  will chew you up and spit you out.

If on the other hand you are interested in the genuine promotion of a genuine product on a genuine website there are some great tools specifically designed to assist in dramatically performing those tasks required to promote your website on the Internet and push you into the top 10 places  in Google. We suggest you go homepage http://www.earnyourmoneyonline.com and check out SEO Nuke which is generally considered to be the most effective SEO system on the market.

Website Traffic – The Easy Way Myth

Posted by Steve | Posted in SEO by Request | Posted on 09-05-2011

When people find out that I am a SEO consultant I am often asked the easiest way to generate website traffic. This question is often posed by an individual who already has a website which is not generating any significant traffic. The same individual would have read numerous articles, listened to many so-called experts and formulated an opinion that website traffic is dependent on some very simple factors and a little trickery.

To a large extent, the formula is quite simple. You either pay for traffic using Google Ad words (or other PPC options)  or you create significant back links to your web page from pages with a high page rank and some relevance to your linked page. Not a difficult formula I’m sure you will agree. Google Adwords rewards you with traffic because you pay them money for this service, back links from relevant and high ranking sites establish your website as an authority on the subject and therefore Google will rewards you with a high organic ranking and therefore more traffic. In both cases however, it is more complex than it would first seem.

If you are in the position of owning a website which gets very little traffic it is highly likely that the very foundation on which it was built is shaky. As an example, more than 90% of the web pages I investigate are missing many of the critical elements required for success. This is because insufficient thought has been given to the product or service that is being marketed, the competition in that niche, the keywords, the structure of the website and the SEO on the web pages themselves.

It is true that well optimized websites, rich in content and value to the target market can still receive little or no traffic. In these rare cases, Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising and/or link building strategies can pay dividends very quickly. However, in most cases driving traffic to the website is going to be difficult and ineffective due to poor SEO, strong competition or poor website content.

While many less reputable SEO experts would suggest massive amounts of traffic can be generated through other means this is simply not the case please as far as generating targeted traffic on a sustainable basis.

If I had to sum up the most important factor in generating website traffic I would have to say “relevance”. The search engines are attempting to determine the relevance of your web page to the search query made by the user. This is because that is exactly the experience the  user wants to have. If the end user enters a search phrase “used cars in Pennsylvania under $3000” and your website is called www.pennsylvaniausedcars.com and the user lands on a web page showing use cars under $3000 in Pennsylvania then you are 90% home. From here your website needs to build the confidence of the end user much in the same way as the guy at the used-car lot does when a buyer walks in off the street.

My advice to website owners is always to optimize their website so that the end user’s experience will be one of relevance. In the process they will sometimes need to look at whether there website can deliver this relevance and if not they may have to bite the bullet and start from scratch. While this advice may not what they want to hear it may be the reality of the situation.

Article Spinners – Do They Work?

Posted by Steve | Posted in SEO by Request | Posted on 05-04-2011

Tags: , , ,

Article spinning is the process of taking a single document and replacing single words, sentences and paragraphs with a number of alternative word choices. The purpose of article spinning is to quickly and adequately change the content of the document to fill the search engines into thinking that they are different documents and thereby increase the number of links from these documents sources back to your site.

Article spinning can be used as a way of quickly rewriting your documents for posting on multiple E-zine sites while reducing the risk that they will be seen as duplicate content by the search engines or in fact the E-zine sites themselves given the recent changes to their content rules in the wake of the last Google slap.

Opinions on the effectiveness of article spinning is varied and that’s because the results are varied. In my experience, the success of article spinning very much depends on your chosen keywords, the competition in that market, the sites that your article spinning software posts your new articles and your expectation of how high a Google ranking you may choose using only article spinning.

Article spinning will be most successful when:

  1. The content of your spun articles is at least 20% different to the original and the title of the article is changed.
  2. The page ranks of the sites used by your article spinning software have at least a 2 or 3 ranking.
  3. Your articles follow normal SEO strategies such as anchor text relevance, landing page relevance and keyword placement.

My expectation when I use article spinning is that I will quickly elevate a web page from relative obscurity to as high as the keyword relevance and the existing competition will allow. From there I would expect to have to us use more standard SEO practices such as creating back links from high page rank sites, improving site content as much as possible, using social media sites etc etc.

There are quite a number of article spinning programs available. Having tested a number of article spinning programs I had mixed results. The best performer was SEO LINKVINE which is quite easy to set up, had reasonable training resources and clearly made an impact to my website ranking everytime I published an article.

I you choose to use article spinning software to produce multiple documents for posting to  E-zines sites I would tend to rewrite the content very significantly, perhaps 40 or 50% to ensure, given how sensitive they are at the moment following the recent Google slap, that the articles are not seen as duplicate content. Personally, I know this process to be effective as I have multiple spun documents across five or six e-zines sites all of which are derived from the same document, with different author names and different titles. These spun documents, provide six quality back links to my chosen website with a long this effort than if I had written six individual articles.

In summary, article spinning has its place but don’t expect to much and as in all things, a reasonable amount of effort is required.

More Effective Google Ads

Posted by Steve | Posted in SEO by Request | Posted on 28-03-2011

Tags: ,

In a recent post I discussed the structure of the Google ads. The structure is extremely important if you want it to be effective.. In a nutshell, Google ads must be relevant to the search term entered by the user, direct the user to an appropriate landing page and have some “Call to Action”. If you satisfy all of these requirements your advertisement should be effective.

However,  after you have crafted an effective advertisement you should not stop there. You can never really know the potential effectiveness of your advertising campaign until you have completed some A.B. testing.

A.B. testing is the process of comparing one thing to another in a live environment. Using  A.B. testing in your Google ads is quite simple. Once you have instructed your main ad, make a variation to the title, the body and the call to action and run these advertisements head-to-head using the same target demographics. Once you have completed these steps you can you use your Google Adwords account to monitor the results.

At this stage, the most important results is the ad click through rate. This is a reasonable measure of the effectiveness of the ad in getting people to click on it and visit this site. If you see that one advertisement has a better click through rate than the other then what you should do is ditch the first and then write another. The third and can now be a be tested against the second ad. This process is continued for as long as you like to continue to improve the effectiveness of the ad. (If your first advertisement is more effective that your second, keep the first and write the third ad).

You can also use A B testing to measure the effectiveness of your campaigns in various demographics. When you are doing this you may need to consider the cost per click if for example comparing the effectiveness of your ad words in the US against Europe.

In summary, A B testing can lift the click through rate of your advertisements very significantly and teach you an enormous amount about the effectiveness of an ad campaign. The information and experience you gain during this process will allow you to write much more effective advertisements first off saving you a lot of time and effort.

Traffic Exchange Perpetual Motion

Posted by Steve | Posted in SEO by Request | Posted on 24-03-2011

In my last post I discussed traffic exchange sites and how they are useful to generating traffic to your affiliate site. In this post I would like to share a clever method of using the referral system within these traffic exchange sites to do all the hard work of generating credit for you.

If you took the time to take a look around www.easyhits4u.com I am sure by now you will have understood the principal on which it works. If you have investigated still further you may have seen that there is a referral system in place by which you can generate credits to use on your own advertisements. Basically, if you refer another user to the site and they sign up, you will receive a certain percentage of all the credits earned by the referred user.

It is possible, given enough referrals that she can effectively fund your own advertising campaign simply the points earned as commissions from your referral members. To achieve referral members I use the following strategy.

Join two traffic exchange sites (www.trafficg.com). Design an advertisement on each site with your referral link (this is provided by the traffic exchange site) pointing back to your other traffic exchange site. Over a relatively short period of time this can generate sufficient referral links on both sites to fund your advertising without the necessity for you to pay the credits or to spend considerable time earning credits by clicking on advertisements.

I have used this method with great success in other marketing campaigns. It is simple but effective. You may have to invest a little money or a little effort in the clicking department but it will be worth your while.

Please follow me on Twitter and Facebook if you like my blog and find information useful.
