Pay Per Click (PPC) Advertising Basics

Pay per click (PPC) is an advertising option chosen by many Internet Marketers whose product profit margins justify the advertising investment.

Basically, you place an ad on a Google ( or other sites and search engines), pay the site owner for each click-through (that is, every visitor who clicks through to your site) and visitors come to your site to view the chosen product or service. If they buy your product you must figure out whether the investment in advertising was worth it.

Some of the terms used in PPC are as follows.

  • Ad group: Where and how your ads and keyword lists are organized and organization should be on top of your list.
  • Campaign: This is where your ad groups are organized. It is also where you set your  budgets or how much to spend on each campaign. You can also set certain parameters like the geographical area in which the ads will run and the demographics and time frames.
  • CPC (cost per click): The amount you pay each time your ad is clicked.
  • CTR (click-through rate): The percentage of how many times your ad was clicked, divided by how many times it was shown.
  • Destination URL: The address of the Web page that the ad points to. This is your landing page and it is an imperative that it reflects the usres serach phrase (keywords)
  • Display URL: The Web address displayed in your PPC ad. This can be different than the actual landing page which may be too verbose.
  • Impressions: How many times your ad was shown when a user searches your chosen keyword(s). You don’t pay for this.
  • Keyword: The words and phrases you have chosen to bid on.
  • Match type: This is how close you want the search engine to match the users query to your list of keywords for the ads . The types are broad, phrase, or exact.
  • Maximum CPC: The dollar amount you set that you are willing to pay for each time your ad is clicked.
  • Conversion Rate: This is the ration of the number of site visits from your ads to the number of actual sales made.
  • Campaign Cost per Sale: This is the ractaul cost in PPC advertising for each sale. This is the indicator which tells you whether your campaigns are paying for themselves.

These are the terms you will become familiar with when you start a PPC campaign. In the next post we will discuss these factors in greater detail.

Domain Hosting for Internet Marketers

Posted by Steve | Posted in SEO by Request | Posted on 12-09-2011

Choosing a web hosting package is a little different for Internet Marketers. We come from a different perspective in that many of us have multiple sites which we will want to host under the same account as this saves us money ( only one account fee) and time (only one account to maintain.

So aside from price what other considerations are there is selecting a website host?

  • Security – Site security is particularly important if you will be hosting an eCommerce site.
  • Speed – Don’t make your potential customers wait. Does the hosting company have upgrade options if additional bandwidth fo rthe site is required.
  • Space – How much space is available on the accountand how does that fit in with the present an future requirement of your sites.
  • Email Capabilities – How many email accounts are provided and what email features are on offer
  • Reports – How useful are the website stats? Good reporting may save you the cost of 3rd party traffic analytic software.
  • Reliability –  What is their uptime? 99% sounds good but that’s nearly 4 full days a year they will be offline.
  • Support – How does their support work? Email support is fine if they are responsive to requests.
  • Extra Bonuses – What extras are they throwing in. $75 Free Google advertising is good value if you are a PPC newbie.

Take a look at a typical matrix of Web Hosts services and Monthly Pricing-

Sample Hosting Comparison

This is a fair representation of the pricing and features for all of these web hosting services but what they don’t tell you is what is not included in the deal. This all happens when you sign up. They will make a few offers during the process and many of them you should probably take up. These may include-

  • Domain privacy which hides the domain owner (you) from the rest of the world.
  • SSL Certificate which you will almost certainly need if you want to take money online.
  • Backup services which protects you data. Not a bad idea if you are not savvy enough to do it yourself.
  • Unique IP. Again, not a bad idea if you want to look like your website is unique rather than sharing an IP with dozens of others.
  • Faster servers. Depending on the speed of the basic package you may want this.
  • Longer domain name registration. You may have got the first year free but the offer to renew for a longer period up front will cost you.

Now its difficult to know what the cost of these services are until you start the registration process so the few dollars a month you save by selecting the cheapest provider in the sample matrix may dissapear if their upgrade options are more expensive.

Sounds like a real dilema doesn’t it? Well my approach is this. If you are serious about Internet Marketing you really can’t go that wrong with any of the top 5. Just Google Web Hosting top 10, check out who consistently makes the top 5 and pick one. Chances are when you really analyze it they will all be within a whisker of each other. You will probably end up paying between $75 and $100 per year will a few extras regardless of who you pick and in the overall scheme of things that should be a relatively small cost in your online business.

Whats in a Name? Choosing Your Domain Name

Now most of us are not building websites with some corporate vision in mind. I say this because to some degree Google are sending out messages through people like Matt Cutts (who I quite like by the way) that perhaps website developers should be considering non keyword domain names. They argue that perhaps your aim should be to have the product associated with your branding much in the same way that we don’t search the web we Google it.

Well, I am here to say that most of us cannot aspire to such dizzy heights and we should probably be looking very closely at securing a keyword focussed domain because they are the easiest to market. I have to say at this point that it is a whole lot harder than it used to be simply because all the best domain names are taken up by various sources.  I say various sources because they could be in use or purchased to park (as an investment) or simply being used in a very inneffectual way. The unavailablity of good domain names partially explains the  increasing focus on long tail keywords for whicg a domain can be purchased and for which the competition is less intense.

However, don’t write off the domain immediately because there may just be another way of securing that ideal domain name for your product or service. If the domain name is taken you can still register your interest should the site not be renewed. You can make the owner of an active site with little or no activity or relevance an offer to purchase the domain. Take a look at this site which will allow you to search for domains, show you available domains for normal registration and also ones for purchase in addition to domains you can pre register for should they become available.     http://www.domainsbot.com

It is clear that there are significant marketing advantages to be gained by having  a keyword domain name so do you research and find something relevant.

URL Scrapers – Why You Should Use One

Posted by Steve | Posted in SEO Software | Posted on 12-09-2011

A Url scraper is a software tool designed to “scrape”  URLS from the major searhc engines based on a keyword or phrase. The software will then export these urls to a txt file.

Now this in itself is not all that useful but what if you could filter the results to show only blog posts, or wordpress sites or .edu sites?

What if you could de-duplicate urls, sort and exclude by page rank for example?  This might end up giving us a pretty good targeted list which we could use for commenting and getting links from high PR sites or identify forums or social bookmarking sites or blog URL’s which we could incorporate into our other SEO software such as SENukeX.

Well this is what a good URL Scraper can do for you and more. Getting the most out of your SEO campaigns is often about using the best tools and getting the edge on other guys who don’t go that extra mile. This means getting the best document spinner, getting the fresh proxy lists and using the best submission software you can find.

My preferred product is Scrapebox. A little expensive at $97 but its a once off cost and worth the money. Its also the recommended product by the team at SENukeX.

SEO and Proxies

Posted by Steve | Posted in SEO by Request | Posted on 12-09-2011

Proxies are primarily used to disguise your IP Address which begs the question…Why would you want to disguise your IP Address?

Well, the main reason is because you are doing something that someone may take exception to whether that is Google or the recipient of some of your unsolicited emails.

Internet Marketers using Black Hat or Grey Hat SEO techniques are often stretching the friendship and posting greater numbers of messages, comments, blog posts, social network links, atricle submissions sending emails etc that is humanly possible by using SEO Software tools. Proxies can disguise the source of these so you can fly under the radar.

While we do not necessarily condone the use of Black Hat or Grey Hat SEO Software it is fairly well accepted that you will have to get yourself some decent proxy lists if you want to use your SEO Software to best effect. This is where the game gets a little trickier. You see every Internet Marketer and his dog are using the free proxies out there and many of them are guilty of some pretty serious spamming. The net result of this is that these proxies are very quickly banned by the Internet Community at Large who utilize either public domain banned proxy lists.

Now this is not to say that you can’t use free proxies. New proxies are constantly being released and are perfectly good if you get them early. So the trick is to get fresh proxies all the time. What you need to do this is a tool like Proxy Goblin which is designed to automate the process of locating fresh proxies and outputting the list to a .txt file which you can import into other applications.

There is another alternative to this and it is paid private proxies. You can purchase private proxies for a monthly fee from Squid Proxies and this will absolutely guarantee that you are not sharing a proxy with some less than desirable Internet Marketers. Your proxy IP’s Change on monthly renewal which is a good feature do if your Marketing is White Hat or perhaps Grey Hat and you just don’t want to go through the drama of renewing proxies all the time then this option may be for you.

I get a lot of emails for people trying to sell me the latest Internet Marketing money making machine. I love getting them, checking them out and generally getting a good laugh out of them.

I usually see a pattern. Someone with a new spin on things will send me a link to a video made by some 11 year old super genius with software he stole of an even younger mega genius and is now making a 6 figure a month income with this KILLER formula! SEONukeX – Black Hat SEO or not.

By strict definition Black Hat SEO  techniques are those activities that are against the guidelines set by the search engines. These guidelines are set to ensure that SERP’s (Search Engine Return Pages) reflect content relevant to the user’s search phrase. Some examples of tactics used to attempt to “fool” the search engines include:-

  • Keyword stuffing – keywords can be provided, among others, in meta tags, alt tags, comment tags, in invisible text to human eyes. By overusing the same keywords throughout a web page  search engines algorithms that reads keywords will drive the web page up in its search result.
  • Doorway and cloaked pages – web sites contain web pages that are listed in search result. However, when entering these pages, users are redirected to other pages. Hence, the search result contents do not match the page displayed to users. E.G  You search for a popular DVD but when you click on a high ranking result a page appears selling you weight control pills. A percentage of people will buy the weight control pills so   leveraging off a popular search term has worked for the sneaky web marketer. Google ( and the other search engines will punish this behavior very severely…if and when they catch you.
  • Link farming – submitting your URL to a website which includes a link directory with a large number of links to other sites with totally unrelated content.
  • Hidden text – hiding text in the page or website is also a black hat SEO technique. It is considered as spam and search engine can ban the website.

None of these tactics are used by SEONukeX which simply uses legitimate SEO techniques such as article submissions, social bookmarking, video sites etc  to increase the number of back-links. There are some grey areas here because SEONukeX uses or relies on tools such as auto registration and auto-submission software in addition to article spinning software. Article spinning software produces many variations of the posted articles and along with auto submission tools  gives the impression of large numbers of independent users posting large numbers of unique documents to many different sites. In theory, this is something that could be done by real human users albeit much slower. The trick is to make the articles different enough and the submission rate slow enough to fool the search engines.

So does this make SEONukeX Black Hat Software?  No, not really but it does fly in the face of the spirit and intention of the Search Algorithm because a large number of back-links is supposed to reflect a broad agreement from the general Internet Community that your site is an authority on the chosen keyword or phrase.  In early SEO history you could stuff your site full of keywords and effectively make a self proclamation of authority but soon enough the major search engines simply stopped counting keyword meta tags as a positive ranking factor ( although stuffing your meta keyword tags will still negatively impact your ranking). The search engines soon realized that external sources should be used as the major ranking factor and furthermore, the actual  ranking of those external pages should also be an important factor. So in essence, it doesn’t matter what you say about yourself its about what people who matter say about you.  SEONukeX makes it easy to give the impression that the links are natural and unique.

SEONukeX is Grey Hat Marketing. It uses acceptable SEO methods but it is not, strictly speaking, playing fair. Google, and the other search engines are aware of this but given that the the methods used are based on genuine SEO strategies, they are somewhat limited in what they can do. They can watch for un-natural numbers of submissions to article directors, social networks and the like and they can put greater restrictions on article sites through tighter duplicate content and linking rules but SEONukeX assists you in these areas but providing excellent article spinning tools and automating submissions so that they are scheduled over a longer period and appear more natural.

In a world where not all is equal some would argue that any tool which puts you back on a level playing field is a good tool. SEONukeX certainly is a good tool and it works best when you have a genuine product or service to sell and your site has good content.

Document Spinning – Tips and Tricks

Posted by Steve | Posted in Article Marketing, SEO by Request, SEO Software | Posted on 09-09-2011

Document spinning software is designed to turn a single document into multiple variations using synonym replacement techniques.

The purpose of this is to enable users to publish copies of their articles on multiple ezine or blog sites for example, whilst avoiding Google’s multiple content filters.  Google’s duplicate content filters will discount duplicate articles from sites with the lower page rank. This of course means that 2o identical documents on 20 ezine sites will only bring you one link to your site. To avoid this your documents have to be sufficiently different.  The magic figure (at the moment) is about 30% different in content.

There is some excellent software available to assist you with this process but it does require that you revise the way in which you word you documents. Keep them in very plain english and construct simple sentences. The more you practice this the more natural it will become.

Lets look at a few examples.

Example 1: Here is an overly complex sentence with overly complex words.

Weight reduction is a difficult task made even harder buy our propensity for high calorific value food.

This is the text is spun form. Note the {Original Word|Variant1|Variant2|Variant3} format – this is the spinning language.

{Weight|Excess weight|Bodyweight|Fat} reduction is a {difficult|challenging|tough|hard} {task|job|process|activity} {made|produced|created|manufactured} even {harder|tougher|more difficult|more challenging} {buy|purchase|acquire|get} our propensity for {high|substantial|higher|large} calorific {value|worth|appeal|price} {food|meals|foods}.

These are three of the possible results.

Excess weight reduction is a challenging task created even more challenging get our propensity for large calorific price meals.

Weight reduction is a hard process made even more difficult get our propensity for high calorific price food.

Fat reduction is a challenging task produced even tougher purchase our propensity for higher calorific price food.

As you can see, the variations are not really acceptable.

Example 2: The same meaning but in a simpler form

Losing weight is hard to do because we all like high calorie food.

Again, here is the spun document-

{Losing|Dropping|Shedding} {weight|excess weight|bodyweight|fat} is {hard|difficult|tough|challenging} to do {because|simply because|since|due to the fact} we all like {high|substantial|higher|large} calorie {food|meals|foods}.

Here are three possible results

Shedding weight is tough to do due to the fact we all like large calorie food.

Dropping bodyweight is hard to do due to the fact we all like large calorie foods.

Dropping excess weight is difficult to do due to the fact we all like high calorie foods.

Clearly, all three of these variations make sense.

In summary, document spinning software is a very valuable tool in the Internet Marketers arsenal but in order to get the most out of it you do have to modify your writing style somewhat.
